Fathom is a notetaker for online meetings with one of the more generous free plans in its category. It records Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls on a Mac or Windows computer and, on team plans, syncs the results to a CRM. Nuvi, the AI note taker for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, does not record online calls. It records the conversation in the room. If your work happens on video calls, choose Fathom. If it happens in person, Nuvi is built for that.
Where Fathom is better
- Online meetings. Fathom captures Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, with a “choice of bot-free (in beta) or bot capture”. Nuvi does not join or record online calls.
- The free plan. Fathom’s Free plan lists unlimited recordings and transcriptions and instant AI call summaries, free forever. Nuvi’s free tier transcribes the first 10 minutes of each recording, 30 minutes a month.
- Mac and Windows. Fathom records meetings on Mac and Windows computers. Nuvi has no desktop app.
- Clips and playlists. Fathom lets you cut clips from a call and build playlists of highlights. Nuvi has no clips.
- CRM sync. CRM sync is on the Fathom plan table, and Business adds CRM field sync and a deal view. Nuvi has no CRM integration.
- Team workspace. Team folders, comments and mentions, keyword alerts and trackers that flag moments such as competitor mentions. Nuvi has no shared workspace.
- Coaching. Coaching metrics and AI scorecards are on the Business plan. Nuvi does not score conversations.
- Integrations. Slack, Zapier and Make, a public API and MCP, and integrations with Claude and ChatGPT. Nuvi has none.
- Enterprise controls. Single sign-on, SCIM and custom data retention on Enterprise. Fathom’s help center states HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance. Nuvi makes no compliance certification claims.
Where Nuvi is different
- No bot at all. Fathom gives a choice of bot or bot-free capture. Nuvi has only one way to record: the microphone in the room. See AI note taker without a bot.
- iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Fathom’s iPhone app is described on the App Store as only for iPhone, and its help center lists iPads as unsupported. Nuvi is a universal iPhone and iPad app, and the watch records on the wrist and hands the file to the iPhone. More in Apple Watch voice recorder.
- No account, no email. Nuvi signs in anonymously in the background with a random identifier.
- Models on servers the developer runs. Audio goes to speech and language models on servers the developer, Ege Beşe, operates, not to a third-party AI service.
- Audio deleted after transcription. The uploaded audio is deleted as soon as the transcript has been returned. There is no call library on a server.
- Notes stay with you. Notes live on the device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud, which the developer cannot read.
- Action items on the free tier. Nuvi’s summary, decisions and action items are included for free users, within the free minutes. Fathom lists AI action items from its Premium plan up.
- Price. Nuvi Pro is $4.99 weekly, $14.99 monthly or $49.99 yearly in the US. See pricing.
Who should choose which
Choose Fathom if:
- your meetings are on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams
- you want a free plan with no cap on recordings
- you run a sales team that needs CRM sync, trackers and coaching
- you want clips of a call to share
- you work on a Windows computer
Choose Nuvi if:
- your conversations are in person: consultations, site visits, interviews, 1:1s
- you want to record from an iPad or an Apple Watch
- you do not want an account
- you want the audio deleted once it is transcribed, and the notes kept on your device
For people who meet clients face to face, see Nuvi for client consultations. If you are searching for a Fathom alternative for iPhone because you want in-person recording, both products now cover it; the difference is the account, the watch and iPad, and where the data goes. If you want your Zoom calls recorded, stay with Fathom.
How the two handle your audio
Fathom. Fathom’s help article “Is Fathom secure?” says none of its AI sub-processors, “Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google”, are contractually permitted to use user data to train their models. It also says “Fathom uses de-identified customer data to improve the accuracy of our proprietary AI models”, and that you can opt out in your settings. All Fathom data is stored in the United States. When you delete your account, recording data and metadata are removed, and after a further 7 days they are removed from backups. Recordings are kept in your Fathom account; the pricing page lists recordings and call storage as unlimited.
Nuvi. Audio is uploaded over an encrypted connection (TLS) to temporary cloud storage (Google Cloud Storage, EU region) only so it can be transcribed. From there it goes to speech and language models that run on servers the developer operates. The uploaded audio is deleted as soon as the transcript has been returned, and a storage rule deletes any leftover upload after one day. Transcripts and summaries are not stored on the server. Audio and transcripts are not used to train AI models. Details are on the privacy-first page.
Recording other people may require their consent depending on where you are. Tell people before you record them, whichever app you use.
