Fireflies is built around online meetings and teams: its notetaker joins Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, and the transcripts land in a shared, searchable workspace with integrations. Nuvi, the AI note taker for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, records the conversation in the room and keeps the notes on your own device. Fireflies is the stronger choice for video calls and for teams. Nuvi is the simpler choice for in-person conversations on Apple devices.
Where Fireflies is better
- Online meetings. Fireflies lists recording for Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and more than ten other platforms. Nuvi does not join calls and cannot capture a video meeting.
- Recording without the bot. The same page lists “Record using Chrome extension without Fireflies bot” for people who prefer no visible notetaker. Nuvi has no browser extension and no desktop app.
- Every platform. Fireflies has a web app, a desktop app, iOS and Android apps and a Chrome extension. Nuvi is iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch only.
- Team workspace. Team workspaces, channels, comments and bookmarks, soundbites, user groups and team analytics are all on the Fireflies plan table. Nuvi has no team features at all.
- Integrations and API. Integrations and API access are on the Fireflies plan table. Nuvi has no CRM, Slack or Notion integrations and no API.
- Conversation analytics. The plan table lists sentiment analysis, topic trackers and speaker talk-time analytics, and the Business plan adds conversation intelligence and team analytics. Nuvi does not analyze conversations beyond the summary, decisions and action items.
- Video. Fireflies captures meeting video on paid plans. Nuvi is audio only.
- Languages. Fireflies lists transcription in 100+ languages.
- Enterprise controls. Single sign-on, SCIM, audit logs, custom data retention and private storage are on the Enterprise plan. Fireflies states SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and HIPAA compliance on its security page. Nuvi makes no compliance certification claims.
Where Nuvi is different
- No bot. Nothing joins a call or appears in a participant list. Nuvi records through the microphone in front of you. See AI note taker without a bot.
- Built for the room. It records on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, keeps recording with the screen locked, and has a “Room” microphone mode for several voices. That suits visits and discovery calls held in person; see Nuvi for sales conversations.
- Apple Watch. The watch records on the wrist and hands the file to the iPhone, which gets it transcribed. The Fireflies App Store listing shows iPhone and iPad.
- No account, no email. Nuvi signs in anonymously in the background with a random identifier. Calendar capture is a Pro feature that reads events on the device and never sends them to the server.
- Models on servers the developer runs. Audio goes to speech and language models on servers the developer, Ege Beşe, operates. It is not sent to a third-party AI service.
- Audio deleted after transcription. The uploaded audio is deleted as soon as the transcript has been returned.
- Notes stay with you. Notes live on the device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud, which the developer cannot read. There is no server-side meeting library.
- Price for one person. Nuvi Pro is $4.99 weekly, $14.99 monthly or $49.99 yearly in the US, with no AI credits to track. The table is on the pricing page.
Who should choose which
Choose Fireflies if:
- your meetings are mostly on Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams
- several people need to search and comment on the same calls
- notes should sync to a CRM or other tools automatically
- you need Android, Windows or a browser
- your company requires single sign-on, audit logs or a signed compliance package
Choose Nuvi if:
- the conversations you want to keep happen in person
- you work alone and do not need a shared workspace
- you want to record from an Apple Watch, the Action button or a Lock Screen widget
- you would rather not create an account or connect a calendar
If you came here looking for a Fireflies alternative for iPhone, be clear about what you need. For a phone recorder for in-person meetings with a summary and action items, Nuvi is a match. For a notetaker that attends your video calls, it is not, and Fireflies or a similar tool remains the right pick.
How the two handle your audio
Fireflies. The Fireflies security page says “You own your data. We don’t train on it by default”, and describes a “0-day data retention policy with all vendors and partners”. It lists 256-bit AES encryption for notes and transcripts at rest and TLS in transit. Recordings and transcripts are stored in your Fireflies workspace, within the storage allowance of the plan: 400 minutes per team on Free, 8,000 minutes per seat on Pro and no cap on Business. Private storage in a location of your choice is an Enterprise feature.
Nuvi. Audio is uploaded over an encrypted connection (TLS) to temporary cloud storage (Google Cloud Storage, EU region) only so it can be transcribed. From there it goes to speech and language models that run on servers the developer operates. The uploaded audio is deleted as soon as the transcript has been returned, and a storage rule deletes any leftover upload after one day. Transcripts and summaries are produced on the server and returned; they are not stored there. Audio and transcripts are not used to train AI models. More detail is on the privacy-first page and in AI note taker privacy.
Both need an internet connection to produce a transcript. Nuvi can still record without one and sends the file when the connection returns.
Recording other people may require their consent depending on where you are. Tell people before you record them, whichever app you use.
